Skælingur - Norðradalur
A peaceful hike that passes through an area with unique rock formations in the valley Gjáarbotnur
From Skælingur, go south from the main road on the unpaved road running through cultivated fields and continue through the gate that leads you to the path. The path is not marked, but it is easy to find the unpaved road and then the path.
The innermost part of Gjáarbotnur is very pleasant, where the old sheep pen in the gorge makes the hike unique. The pen, which has recently been renovated by a stonemason, was first built sometime in the 19th century.
At Norðradalur, the path has been redirected. The farmer has put signs on his two gates, guiding hikers to use the lower gate. The path is not visible between the gate and close to where the path goes up through the crag.
Take the GPX-file with you. Cairns and path are not always visible.
The path can be taken in either direction, weather and/or mode of transportation being deciding which direction is preferable. Whichever direction you take, there are some tough hills to walk up through.
