In Inger Smærup Sørensen’s new novel, fru s, we meet a woman who has carefully prepared for her old age. From her sixth-floor apartment, she observes the world outside as her thoughts turn to youth, motherhood, love and shame – and to the rising water levels.
Inger Smærup Sørensen visits the Faroe Islands to discuss the novel with the well-known Danish literary critic Lars Bukdahl. In his enthusiastic review of fru s, published in a September issue of Weekendavisen, he asks himself when he last encountered literature that emerged from such a compelling foundation as the one on which fru s is built.

fru s is Inger Smærup Sørensen’s second novel. Her debut novel, Dødsbo, was published in 2024 and was praised as a distinctive and relevant work. She received the Munch-Christensen Debutant Prize for the novel and was also nominated for the Bogforum Debutant Prize.
